ExtractData 1.00  Release ReadMe

ExtractData 1.00 is a program which helps you find and extract specific
types of data from with one or more source files. 

So if you want to extract just email addresses, person names - or any data 
of a specific type from one or more files you have which contain them, then
Extract data will do it for you.


ExtractData is currently free software, issued under the GNU GPL V3 Licence.

 
Any constructive feedback you might have from using ExtractData
would be welcomed as it is a living program. More releases are planned. Please

Apart from that, please remember that you use ExtractData entirely at your
own risk. See the licence for details.
			





There are some pre-requisites to successfully using ExtractData :-


1. 'Out of the box', (when invoked with 'RunExtractData.bat'),
   ExtractData requires 

	:   128Mb Ram. (But you can allocate more - see below).
	:   Free disk space of around 3 times the size of the largest source file
	    processed.
	:   A compatible OS. Windows XP and higher should be fine.
	:   A compatible JRE - see below.
	
	
	Alternatively, for convenience and to use other pre-supplied memory models,
	you can invoke ExtractData with any of the following :-
	

	RunExtractData_256M.bat       - Maximum of 256Mb allocated.
	RunExtractData_512M.bat       - Maximum of 512Mb allocated.
	RunExtractData_1G.bat         - Maximum of 1Gb allocated.
	RunExtractData_2G.bat         - Maximum of 2Gb allocated.
	
	RunExtractData.bat            - Defaults to 128Mb allocated.
	
	
	If your hardware does not have the required free memory and you have invoked
	ExtractData with a .bat file requesting more, then ExtractData
	will not start. Use one of the other .bat files specifying a lower value
	instead.
	
	For very large source files, either use one of the higher memory settings or
	use the column definition functions conservatively.
	
	If you need to, feel free to create other RunExtractData_n[G,M].bat
	files as you wish. For example, if your hardware is equipped with 4Gb RAM,
	then using a RunExtractData_3G.bat file, should be fine. 
	
	


2. ExtractData requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) at version 1.6 or higher.
   If you do not have one, you can get one from www.java.sun.com.


3. The JRE should be accessible in your PATH variable. This means that if you type

   java -version
   
   at the command line, java will respond with its version number. If you get
   'Bad command or file name' or similar, then java is probably not in your current PATH.

   
4. Unzip the main distribution file into the required location. Eg C:\Program Files.


5. To launch the program from the command line, change directory to the installation
   directory (eg c:\Program Files\ExtractData_1.00) and enter :-
   
   .\RunExtractData.bat
   
   This file can be altered if required, for example to alter the 1024M to a higher
   or lower figure. (This changes the maximum amount of memory ExtractData
   will try to use).


ExtractData is being developed on a Windows XP platform, but may also run on other
non Windows systems, that support a JRE at 1.6 or above.

Installation
------------


To install ExtractData, unzip the entire contents of the main distribution 
file provided into a convenient location, say C:\Program Files. 


A new directory called ExtractData_1.00 will be created under C:\Program Files.


Navigate to this directory and double click on RunExtractData.bat to launch
the program.
