    Together with the patchset at (sourceforge)/uecasm/etherlab-patches/, rev 1.5.2 produced a running EtherCAT master on a Debian 9 x64 system, kernel 4.9. Follow the directions in the patchset's README. There are still a few minor tweaks to the process to get it installed and running depending on the specific distribution but they aren't difficult.
