Error Propagation Calculator is essentially a cross-platform GUI front-end for the Python Uncertainties library that does not require knowledge of Python to use. Simply point and click to enter values and errors, input your expression and press compute. The program evaluates native Python code, but the user does not need to know the syntax as common operators are provided as buttons, similar to a scientific calculator.

-Evaluate expressions with as much as 26 different variable and error pairs.

-Copy output to the system clipboard by simply double clicking the output field.

-Cross-platform: Works on Windows, Linux, and Mac.

All calculations are dependent on the uncertainties package (Uncertainties: a Python package for calculations with uncertainties, Eric O. LEBIGOT, http://pythonhosted.org/uncertainties/)

User Reviews

  • Apparently Error Propagation Calculator treats correlated errors properly, which Huber's ErrorCalc does not. However, the heading for the box for the calculation should read "Expression" rather than "Equation" since equal signs are not accepted.
  • Thank you for creating this propagation of error calculator and making it cross-platform. I had been using the excellent error_calc produced by Prof. Huber at Gustavus Adolphus College, but this one is only for Windows and iPad/iPhone. I was looking for such a calculator that could run on Linux as well as Windows. Of course, one could simply use the command line in python to run the uncertainties pacakge, but it is highly convenient to have a gui. Thus far, I give the Error Propagation Calculator an Excellent rating in ease, features, and design. I have not tried getting support for it yet (although it is so simple to use that I might not need to contact support) -- they should have a N/A rating for this. Some suggestions I would have is that it could be nice to have the option to compute various types of averages including weighted, geometric, and harmonic. It would also be good if it included a feature to compute areas under the Normal Distribution.
  • I am a graduate student in Iowa State University and this program saves me lots of time in calculating error. It is extremely useful. PS: Is there any 32bit Windows version of Error Propagation Calculator?
