EndlementaryOS Installation Files
This project hosts the installation files for a version of the Elementary OS 7.0 Stable operating system which was modified by injecting the EndlessOS kernel into it. This enables Elementary OS to run smoothly on any RAID system.
Why this project?
If you bought a Dell Inspiron 7490 or (any other laptop that does not support AHCI) and tried to install Ubuntu on it, you probably realised too late that this is not possible. On recent PCs, there are two ways of way of viewing the internal hard drive(s) available:
-
AHCI mode: this mode is quite classic and does not pose any problem with Linux.
-
RAID mode: this mode is useful if you want to make a RAID cluster within your laptop. It is useless for an average user.
The problem is this: RAID mode is not compatible with Linux, and the Dell Inspiron 7490 only allows you to choose between RAID mode or no hard disk at all (in reality, this pc has AHCI mode but it is not accessible and has probably never been tested, so it is a good idea to avoid it). The only distribution with a RAID compatible kernel is EndlessOS. The idea behind this project was therefore to use the kernel of this distribution and inject it into Elementary OS.
Installation
Simply download the .iso
file and burn into a live USB. After, just follow the same installation process specified in the official site!
