The goal of e-Gibalec application is to promote exercise as a part of a healthy lifestyle to schoolchildren. It motivates the children to cultivate the habit of being physically active during leisure time. Gamification techniques are used for the motivation purposes, such as earning coins by being physically active, earning special currency by reaching daily goals and a possibility to challenge a friend in certain activity. The awards can be afterwards used to buy items which enable different types of challenges
e-Gibalec utilises phone sensors (accelerometer and location) and intelligent algorithms to recognise the activity and estimate the users energy expenditure while active. The application also involves parents and physical-education teachers. The teachers will have access to the data collected by the application and will be able to use it for more effective physical education.
