  • Dude! You rock!! My power button just went bad on my Dell 24" PC monitor and it's a bummer.... but this makes it all better. Most these utilities just do a full screen BLACK , but this actually puts the monitor in to power save mode... PERFECT. I just wiggle my mouse to bring it back up and Bob's my Uncle. ;-) I love lightweight bat files like this. I made a shortcut on my desktop, I click it and BOOM. Thanks!! DB
  • @lestor (see his review below and his request "make it possible not to awaken the screen when moving the mouse"): There is already a free tool (not sure if it's freeware) called "Sordum Monitor Off v1.1" that provides this feature.
  • Hello, unfortunately it doesn't work on a tablet. If I turn off the display, background processes will stop working. I assume that it is related to the modern standby mode. It is not possible to wake up the display by touch, it is probably related to the requirements below regarding the mouse. It cannot be parameterized so that it turns off only the display and does not put background processes to sleep, it cannot be woken up by touching the screen
  • Please make it possible not to awaken the screen when moving the mouse. The meaning in the application is lost because the slightest random touch of the table where the computer is located awakens the screen as the mouse twitches. Please make it possible to awaken the screen only using the keyboard! In all other aspects, the application is perfect!

  • I've searched and downloaded several other turn off monitor programs and they all lock the screen. I was really hopeful for this one, but despite lock workscreen being optional I can't get it to stay unlocked. I've opened the doff.ini file and changed AlwaysLockWorkStation from no to yes, to no, to deleting it, rewriting it again but can't figure it out. Please help!

AlwaysLockWorkStation locks workstation (as well as /l switch) before turning display off. Workstation lock can be enforced by corporate policy, nothing can be done about it.
  • Previously I used a .bat script which I would run via "Windows-key + 1" (just put the icon on taskbar) to turn off the screen on my PC, but it didn't work for my laptops. But this tool works straight out of the box, which is so cool. Thank you for such software!
  • I literally just created a SF account to rate this 5/5 stars. This circumvents the annoying DisplayPort hotplugging detection on my new monitor, so that my windows can FINALLY stay where I put them when I come back.. great stuff! 🙏
  • Sort of works, but doesn't do what I want. I am playing Music using Windows Media Player on Win10 Pro, Version 10.0.19042. It does turn off the screen, but it pops back on after a few seconds. Power&Sleep settings don't help, since the desktop PC does not go into Sleep mode ... and it shouldn't while playing music ..

I've had similar issue when for some unknown reason monitor had turned back. I presume it was due to video driver. There is nothing I can help you with.

Create shortcut on Windows desktop and assign hot key for it. I use Ctrl+Alt+D
  • Very handy! Only thing I'd add is a configurable inactivity timer to turn off the screen when no keyboard / mouse activity occurs for a while. Yes, windows has always had such a feature. But going all the way back to windows -95, the built in timer for power savings inexplicably fails more than any other background service I can think of.
  • Fantastic software! I'hv made an youtube video how to use it... you can easily find it here! "How to turn off your display to save Energy!" Thank you!
  • I really like this tool but what about the option to toggle the display back on if it is off. I assigned this application to a shortcut button on my laptop but to turn the display back on I have to move my mouse - it would be easier if I could just press the same button again and the display turns back on. Just a small suggestion. Thanks for taking the time to code this!
  • Thank you! I was looking for a tool like this, works great. Only a comment.- Vostro 3500 Windows 7 Professional, 64Bits, 8GB RAM Intel Core i5 doff.exe /? is not showing help, as intended. Best regards.
