What's changed
- Screensaver: start as soon as charging begins. With the Always On Display on, Android does not wake the phone when it is plugged in, so a screensaver never started until someone woke the screen. Settings → Screensaver → Start as soon as charging begins (off by default) fixes that: with extended access (Shizuku or root) the screensaver starts at once; without it, Device Watch wakes the screen and the lock screen times out into the screensaver in about 10–15 seconds. Nothing happens while the screen is on, and Android's own screensaver choice and "when to start" setting are respected.
- The phone's name above the screensaver clock: Android's device name, tidied and shortened ("Pixel 10 Pro"); it can be turned off.
- Burn-in shift only up and down (#6): a setting that keeps the screensaver centred sideways.
- Fixed on the Fairphone 6 and other phones that hide their default screen density from apps: the widgets were drawn at a third of their size and the Device tab claimed a display size of 300 %. The widgets now size themselves in plain dp and fit to the height the launcher gives them, and long network names are cut short with "…" instead of shrinking past readability.
- RAM as sold: phones that do not state their memory size got Android's own guess (12 GB read as 16 GB); the Device tab now shows the nearest size memory is sold in, marked "about".
- The screen diagonal on the Device tab is now labelled an estimate: it is computed from the pixel densities Android reports, which makers fill in loosely.
Coming next
More root features in the next version, such as profiles.
Installing
Updates cleanly over v1.4.x and later. If you are coming from v1.3.1 or older (package com.example.modernwidget), uninstall the old app first — it is a different package and will not update.
