This is debian mate. It's based on the debian stable branch (Jessie), and uses debian repositories for all packages installed. It is equipped with as notably, the mate desktop environment (mate 1.8.1). There are 32 and 64bit versions available.

SETUP

LIVE SESSION
Password for the live session is “live”.

UFW
Ufw is enabled and denies incoming and allows outgoing. If you plan to use xrdp, you better poke a hole to allow (same goes for openvpn).

ISSUES
========================================================================
NETWORK-MANAGER
Network-manager still has a bug (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=755202) that creates fake extra wired interfaces.

First thing to know in debian mate is that network-manager is already managing your network interfaces. Let’s on with this now...

There's two ways to do fix this.
Bypass the problem: Install wicd which will replace network-manager as the network daemon.

Deal with the problem: Open /etc/network/interfaces as root with nano or leafpad, comment out everything under "# The primary network interface" followed by saving and exiting, and once back at command line, finish up with "systemctl restart network-manager".
