CryptoPad is a Java based file encryptor ! It can encrypt every type of file. The icing on the cake is that it's 100% cross-platform. i.e. You can run the same .jar file on Windows, Mac OS, Linux and any OS capable of running JRE 8 :)

CryptoPad uses AES-128 bit symmetric key encryption to secure your data.

We do value your privacy, that's why we never store passwords...Instead CryptoPad uses SHA-256 algorithm for hashing your password ! Note that password hashes are also not stored.

Word of Caution: CryptoPad is tried and tested on Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 and on Debian Distros. We don't guarantee 100% compatibility with your system! Web Dependencies in the app may tend to suffer.

1.) Starting the App


Just right click the app. Lo and Behold ! If you can't start the app make sure you are running JRE 8. See a similar troubleshoot question in our FAQ Section.

2.) Encrypting a File


Once the app is started you can see the button labelled "Encrypt File  >>>". Click and you will be greeted by a stage where you need to follow 3 simple steps to complete the encryption process.

              a.) Select a file by clicking on the button labelled "..."
              b.) Enter a password of your choice of length between 10 and 36.
              c.) Renter the same password and click "Encrypt It".

Now, if you wish to encrypt another file, you can follow the same steps again.

If you wish, you can go back to home page by clicking on the "Home" button at the top-left corner.

Word of Caution: Don't delete the unencrypted file as the encrypted file may not comply with data integrity. We don't guarantee data integrity and any data lost would be your sole responsibility !

3.) Decrypting a File


Once the app is started you can see the button labelled "Decrypt File  >>>". Click and you will be greeted by a stage where you need to follow 3 simple steps to complete the encryption process.

              a.) Select a file by clicking on the button labelled "..."
              b.) Enter the same password as it was used for encryption.
              c.) Click "Decrypt It".

Now, if you wish to decrypt another file, you can follow the same steps again.

If you wish, you can go back to home page by clicking on the "Home" button at the top-left corner.

Word of Caution: Don't delete the .enc (encrypted file) immediately as the decrypted file may be corrupted !
