HOW TO INSTALL CNV WORKSHOP

There are two ways to install CNV Workshop:

1. Easier but less flexible: load our pre-installed CentOS Linux virtual machine (VM) image into your virtualization software such as VirtualBox, VMware, etc.

2. Harder but flexible: do a lengthy manual installation on the operating system of your choice.

The intent of the CNV Workshop authors is that the application should be installed and maintained by personnel with computer system administration skills. If you use CentOS Linux or Windows, our installation documentation should be sufficient even for a technically skilled person who is not a professional system administrator. Note that the application can also be installed on virtually any UNIX-like operating system and has been tested on Mac OS X in addition to CentOS Linux.

* Option 1: Linux CentOS 5.4 virtual machine (VM) image *

The easiest way to install CNV Workshop is to use the virtual machine (VM) image we provide, which is based on CentOS Linux. Beyond the very large (1.1 GB) download, it should only take a few minutes to get started. This option requires that you work with CentOS Linux. This option also requires that you possess virtualization software like VMware, VirtualBox, Parallels, or similar. When using the VM image, you will have only a small handful of configuration steps to complete before you can start using CNV Workshop. Note: the VM image has a limited amount of disk space, and if your needs exceed this, additional storage space will need to be mounted.

Find virtual images here: http://cnv.chop.edu/vm_images/

* Option 2: manual installation *

If you cannot or do not wish to use the VM image approach, the manual installation process can be expected to take several hours, as the software has many dependencies, such as Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, MySQL, etc.

A) Windows:

 1) Download cnv-2.0.X.zip *and* cnv-2.0.X.war.
 2) Unpack the .zip file and follow instructions in
    docs/INSTALL_WINDOWS.txt.

B) Others:

 1) Download cnv-2.0.X.tgz *and* cnv-2.0.X.war.
 2) Unpack the .tgz file and follow instructions in
docs/INSTALL_CENTOS.txt or docs/INSTALL.txt. The latter is complete but
general and may be hard to follow successfully unless you have significant
system administration experience. Also check the installation area of the wiki:
    https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/cnv/wiki/InstallationHowto to
see if anyone has written detailed instructions for your platform.
