First I want to say, it's a shame Microsoft forcing Windows 8 users to install such a tool. Who really wants to work on a Desktop-PC with that catastrophic Metro-Thingy? Not to mention how ugly it looks like, it's impossible to manage/launch hundreds or thousands of programs in a rational and logical way using tiles only.
So I tested many different Startmenu-Tools with Windows 8, in fact every I have found on the internet - free and paid. And there's no doubt that Classic Shell is my personal winner!!! (the only real competitor *imho* was Stardock Start8 which isn't free but only 5$)

Classic start menu? You have to be kidding me, there is nothing good about that old piece of junk, you people should evolve.

Classic Shell is amazing, will really come into it's own, and be essential software when Windows 8 is released! With Windows 7 Classic Shell offers substantial improvements not just in familiarity but in form that follows function. On Windows 8 and Windows Server 8 Classic Shell will be essential for anyone that needs to get work done with a PC due the integration of Metro as Start Menu, the inability to multi-task when some interface features are running, and massive increase of user input required (mouse clicking and window manipulation) to accomplish the same tasks that on previous versions of Windows required no input, a single mouse click, much less input intensive operation... On Windows 8, Classic Shell will literally save lives on mission critical systems -- this is not an exaggeration, but first hand experience!

Have been using it for some time now on all Windows 7 machines I have to use and must say this is one of the most useful things that I use on a daily basis. With Windows 8 and the even uglier "start menu" upcoming, this is once again going to be the solution. Thanks so much!

bug found.. if you use it to search a program of the star menu, if you click right buttom to use de menu.. the program crash. you cant use for example... send to.

Classic Shell is the only reason i moved from XP to win 7. I highly recommend this free application. I also recommend to Win 8 users to Upgrade to Win 7 and install Classic Shell as windows 8 (designed by FISHER PRICE) is so bad that not even Classic shell can save it (At least not yet).

Very nice project. One thing that is really missing is the ability to add 'Favorite' folders - I used to use this feature alot back on my XP days - and when I upgraded to Windows 7 - it was removed! Hopefully, this project could fill in this missing functionality
