  • FIVE F***IN STARS YO! my OCD goes INSANE with all the different toolkits programs are built on in GNU/Linux. this is finally a perfect solution to that problem. I used clearlooks-phenix before this. classiclooks comes with scripts that can generate new themes as well! a perfect solution to a small, but irritating problem! please make more stuff like this! i love it!

  • Brilliantly unfashionable oldschool grey theme. It's *NOT FLAT UI* and *NOT MATERIAL DESIGN*, and that's a bloody good thing! Like many people right now, I'm working from home. This theme isn't reliant on shadows and compositing, which makes remote desktop sessions nice and fast. Little things like menus having a 1px border for clarity, or the window manager frames having nice thick resize grips really do make all the difference. Aesthetically, many of its sub-themes have my favorite mix of mid-light greys and nicely contrasting button highlights and shading. It works for me in places with bright sunlight on screens, and at night with the screen darkness turned down. It's a "light" theme in theory, but it's good enough to switch to light backgrounds from dark (and I did). There used to be more themes like this, but they died by the wayside as GTK evolved, and as fashions changed to ape Apple-esque "flat UI" and Googleesque "material design". I'm glad this one exists and is being maintained as of GTK 3.24.18 / 2.24.32. The themes are highly customizable, and ship with a bunch of classically inspired palette choices. Unix longbeards should dig the Solaris or Irix flavors. Ubuntu fans might approve of the Ambience lookalike. A word of warning: the shipped sub-themes with 1.5.0 serve more as a demo of the various button and tab options, meaning they can look a bit weird at times. You may need to craft your own to get what you want: see the bundled HACKING guide.
