The VMware image contains a ready-to-run Cinnamon server system in a 32 Bit Ubuntu 12.04 virtual machine. (Cinnamon of course also runs on 64 bit systems, but since the 32 bit VM should run everywhere, we think the current VM should suffice for testing purposes)
Username: cinnamon
Password: cinnamon
Keyboard layout on the console is German, you can change it via
sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
To detect the ip address of the VM, just login - if you do not see a summary of the machine's statistics, type 'ifconfig'<enter> to see your local eth0 ip address.
Configure the client (config/CinnamonDesktopClient.custom.config.xml) by adding an entry for the server at the end of the configuration file:
<server name="Cinnamon-Demo">http://$ip:8080/cinnamon/cinnamon/legacy</server>
