README-1st.txt The contents of this package are provided free of charge under the GNU license, a copy of which is contained in the file License.txt, located in the same folder as this README. Technically, the package contain 2 programs: chb (a Unix script) and chbGUI (a Java Swing GUI - Graphical User Interface - to the Unix script). However, chb is embedded into chbGUI, so you only need to download/install the latter. Two documents are provided. Start with the chbGUI Quick Guide. You’ll only need the chb User Guide to understand some of the options in detail, but the GUI should be pretty easy to use and self-explanatory for the most part. A few extra utility scripts are also provided - undocumented - in the Extras folder, but their use should be self-explanatory. History: I originally developed chb as my own backup tool back in 2008 for use primarily on my Mac (on OS X i.e. Darwin), but also on my Linux machine. With the advent of Time Machine (Apple backup tool), I stopped using chb on my Mac. I still use it on my Linux server and it works well. chbGUI was developed as a Java self-teaching exercise for myself, and also with the intention of simplifying the use of chb. As a user, you only need to be concerned with installing chbGUI since chb is embedded in its package. In 2014, I resumed developing both chb and chbGUI with the intention of making it available as freeware on a public site, mostly for Linux users, although most of the development is being done on Mac OS X. Enjoy!
