Overview

CatDOS is a fork of DOSBox focused on simplicity, improved usability, and a few fun extras. This release introduces enhancements to performance, configuration handling, and user experience while maintaining compatibility with classic DOS software and games.

New Features

QuickMount Command A new command that automatically mounts commonly used directories with minimal configuration.

CatDOS Shell Messages The command shell now includes CatDOS-specific system messages and helpful tips.

Auto-Config Detection CatDOS can now detect basic hardware settings and apply optimized defaults automatically.

Enhanced Logging Optional debug logging makes it easier for developers and advanced users to diagnose issues.

Installation

Download the CatDOS release package.

Extract the archive to a folder of your choice.

Run the included executable to start CatDOS.

(Optional) Edit the configuration file to customize CPU cycles, graphics, sound, or other settings.

Note: CatDOS will show up as DOSBox in the window title or system process list. This is the intended behavior.

Developer Notes

CatDOS remains compatible with most DOSBox configuration files, but some advanced options may behave differently due to internal improvements.

Developers are encouraged to report issues and contribute improvements to help expand the project.
