First implementation of the CryptoNote technology - anonymous, flexible, secure. I'm sure every crypto-guy/girl already heard about it and there is not much to add. If you didn't heard about it - definitely give it a try. Great coin overall. First altcoin that can go on par with Bitcoin.

Bytecoin (BCN) is a cryptocoin based on CryptoNote technology. It is a project created from scratch that makes no use of Bitcoin code. The coin was launched in 2012 and deemed as one of the most stable cryptocurrencies with steadily growing community and reliable team of developers. The egalitarian PoW algorithm used in Bytecoin presupposes a fair distribution of coins so there aren’t many of large bagholders. It’s CPU-minable and ASIC-resistant so you won’t need any specific equipment to mine the coin profitably. I’ve made quite a few coins mining it with my Intel core i5 through MinerGate pool and there are more pools to choose from. Bytecoin is the first coin of its kind with a number of forks popping up in the last 2 years. What makes Bytecoin unique is the Ring Signatures technology. Below is a short explanation of how the technology works: The ordinary digital signature verification process involves the public key of the signer. The signature actually proves that the author has the corresponding secret key. That is the way technology is implemented in Bitcoin and most of its forks. Ring signatures, on the other hand, is a more sophisticated scheme, which requires a number of different public keys for verification. To make it plain and clear, by ring signatures we understand a group of individuals, each with their own secret and public key. The signer of a given transaction is an undistinguishable member of the group. The main difference with the ordinary digital signature schemes is that a verifier cannot establish the exact identity of the signer.
