Biogenesis is an artificial life program that simulates the processes involved in the evolution of organisms. It shows colored segment based organisms that mutate and evolve in a 2D environment. Biogenesis is based on Primordial Life.

A very interesting project, complex and entertaining just enough to attract the attention of even the layman. By the way, is there a record of the longest simulations somewhere? Maybe it would encourage interest even more :-)

This is really neat. I wrote a much, much simpler artificial life tool at bugs.pablart.com/ and I look forward to one day get close to the features in Biogenesis.

Very good

Although not visually attractive as other biosimulatores (it´s not 3D), the amount of information this program provides is amazing, once a user is able to interpret the genetic information of the virtual microrganims evolving in front of him. I tried all the free options available under windows, and this the one I prefer. You have lot of options to play with (although I personaly don´t like to interfere in a world once I established the inicial conditions), the organisms are just made of DNA segments colour-coded that evolve "plant", "animal" or "mixed"-like behaviours (I mean the type of metabolism) , with predators emeging after some turns and engaging in a fight with their preys. More complex organisms also are going to arrive as the time goes on. All in all, an extremely rich artificial life program with an active development team. Be sure to read the user manual in order to understand the basic concepts of tthe program.

I really like it. I generate worlds like 2000x2000 up to 10,000x10,000 with couple thousands organisms and love to see how they develop to strongest (and nice looking) species. It's somehow remarkable that oxygen and CO2 quickly stabilize to reflect our real-life atmosphere which proves that even with no oxygen at start the atmosphere would in a matter of no time change to this one we know. So it may support a few genesis theories: one branch that says that at the beginning there was lack of O2 and the second that O2 was in nearly current state since early beginnings... Just boring theories of smarty pants, we have interesting game here :) Generally, it is very good app, with easy to understand source code, small, reliable and powerful. Thanks guys
