VMware vCenter Server
BackupZit now connects to vCenter Server 7 and 8 as well as to single ESXi hosts. Add it under Agents → VMware ESXi hosts → Add an ESXi host or vCenter Server with its address and administrator@vsphere.local (or a user with the Administrator role).
- One connection for the whole datacenter: the VMs of all ESXi hosts and clusters, each shown with the host it runs on.
- vMotion-proof: a VM moved to another host keeps being backed up — VMs are recognised by their instance UUID.
- No SSH, no host passwords: everything goes through the vSphere API.
- Restores choose the ESXi host (default: the original VM's host) and the datastore.
- Instant recovery starts the VM on the chosen host; Finish moves the running VM to a datastore with Storage vMotion — no downtime.
- A vCenter with several datacenters is not supported yet (add those hosts directly).
Tested on vCenter 8.0.3 with ESXi 8.0.3: a running VM backed up application-consistent through vCenter, restored as a new VM, all blocks identical.
The user guide (VMware ESXi) explains vCenter in all 14 languages.
Update the console and then the agents (Agents → Update all).
Releases are signed with the BackupZit release key; consoles verify them before installing.
