Stop runs and limit how long they take
- Cancel and stop: a queued backup, copy or restore can be cancelled, and a running one stopped — on the run page, on the job page or over the REST API. The agent stops the run within seconds; the command before the backup is ended too, the command after the backup still runs. The run gets the new status cancelled: it does not count as a failure in reports and sends no failure email. It is recorded in the audit log.
- Time limit of a run: a new job setting (hours, under Advanced). A backup or copy that runs longer is stopped and marked as failed, with the usual failure notification.
Easier job editing
- The job form opens on a page of its own with the new Edit button next to Run backup now, Test restore, Disable and Delete. It no longer reloads every few seconds while a run of the job is active.
Microsoft 365: everything, with exceptions
- Accounts and SharePoint sites can be backed up as all — accounts and sites added later are included automatically — with an Except list, or as only these.
- The list from the tenant has Select all and Select none. With "all", unticked entries become exceptions.
- Exceptions need agent 0.38.0 or newer.
Logs and diagnostics
- Get log on the Agents page: the agent sends the end of its log and its newest installer logs to the console, to read or download on the run page (kept 30 days). No need to sign in on the machine.
- The agent log now rotates (up to 4 files of 10 MB). On Linux it moved from /etc/backupzit to /var/log/backupzit/agent.log (the old file is moved over). The agent also logs when the connection to the console is back.
- The console writes its log also to
/var/lib/backupzit/logs/server.log(besides the journal). - Settings → Diagnostics lists where all logs are, shows the last lines of the console log and offers a diagnostics zip for support requests: console log, versions, agents, jobs, failed runs of the last 30 days and the audit log — without passwords, keys or storage credentials.

REST API
New endpoints: GET /api/v1/agents/{id}, POST /api/v1/agents/{id}/log, GET /api/v1/runs/{id}/log, POST /api/v1/runs/{id}/cancel, POST /api/v1/jobs/{id}/enable and /disable, GET /api/v1/storage, and GET /api/v1/metrics with metrics in the Prometheus text format for Prometheus, Grafana and other monitoring tools.
Small changes
- The sidebar shows the console's current date and time below the time zone.
- The run page of agent updates and agent logs no longer shows restore fields.
Releases are signed with the BackupZit release key; consoles verify them before installing.
