What's new in 0.57.0

New feature: threshold command group

Four new sub-commands for CI/CD cost gating. Each fetches live Azure cost data, evaluates it against a threshold, and optionally exits with code 1 (via --fail-on-threshold) to fail a pipeline step.

Sub-command What it checks
threshold daily-change Today's total cost vs yesterday
threshold forecast-deviation Actual spend vs the Azure forecast
threshold service-spike Per-service cost vs the same-length previous period
threshold weekly-average 7-day average daily cost (fixed-amount only)

Shared options: --percentage, --fixed-amount, --fail-on-threshold

All output formats are supported (-o console, -o json, -o text, -o markdown, -o csv).

:::bash
# Fail the pipeline if today's cost increased more than 25 %
azure-cost threshold daily-change --percentage 25 --fail-on-threshold

# Alert if any service spiked by more than €200 vs last period
azure-cost threshold service-spike --fixed-amount 200 -o json

New feature: configuration file support

A JSON config file (local azure-cost-cli.json or global ~/.azure-cost-cli.json) can now supply default values for any option. CLI flags always win over config file values.

:::json
{
  "subscription": "00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000",
  "output": "text",
  "noColor": true
}

New global flags: --no-color and --quiet

  • --no-color — disables ANSI colour output; useful in CI logs or terminals that don't support colour.
  • --quiet — suppresses all status/spinner messages; only actual data is written to stdout. Ideal for scripting and piping.

Both flags can also be set via the config file.

Other changes

  • Anomaly detection: detectAnomalies now prints a green "No anomalies detected." message instead of silent empty output when no anomalies are found.
  • Removed: the prices command (was never shipped/enabled). The underlying price retrieval infrastructure is retained for what-if scenarios.
  • Bug fix: accumulatedCost no longer attempts to fetch a forecast for past-only timeframes (TheLastMonth, TheLastBillingMonth), avoiding a spurious API error.
  • Bug fix: validation errors (e.g. missing required flags) now print a clean single-line message instead of a full stack trace.
  • Dependency: Microsoft.NET.Test.Sdk bumped to 18.6.0.
