API-Sniffer-OS (v1.0 Official Release)
API-Sniffer-OS is a powerful, locally hosted, headless virtual machine backend designed specifically for network diagnostics and deep API call analysis. Built on a heavily customized Kali Linux kernel, it seamlessly bridges the gap between your host machine and the API Sniffer Endpoint Detector Chrome Extension.
This installer bundles the completely configured Linux environment (.qcow2 image) and portable QEMU binaries, allowing it to run completely isolated and offline.
Key Features
- 100% Local Processing: No cloud servers, no telemetry, and zero data collection.
- Invisible Execution: Runs silently in the background without cluttering your host desktop.
- Integrated noVNC: Access the graphical interface effortlessly via your web browser.
- Extension Bridge: Serves as the ultimate backend engine for the API Sniffer extension.
System Prerequisites
Since API-Sniffer-OS relies on QEMU and Windows virtualization, your host machine must meet the following requirements:
- Hardware Virtualization (VT-x/AMD-V) enabled in your system BIOS or UEFI.
- Ensure the following Windows features are enabled:
- Virtual Machine Platform
- Windows Hypervisor Platform
Installation and Setup
- Download the API-Sniffer-Setup.exe file (3.1 GB).
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once installed, double-click the API-Sniffer-OS shortcut created on your Desktop.
- A command window will launch. Please leave this window open and wait 2 to 5 minutes for the Linux kernel and network services to fully boot.
Connecting to the OS
You do not need an external VNC viewer. The OS broadcasts its desktop directly to your local browser.
- Open your web browser.
- Navigate to the following address: http://127.0.0.1:6080/vnc.html
- Click "Connect".
Important Rule: You may only maintain ONE active connection at a time. If you connect via the Extension Dashboard, please close that tab before connecting via the direct URL.
Default Credentials
When prompted by the VNC interface or system lock screen, use the following default credentials:
- Username: sniffer
- Password: sniffer
(We highly recommend changing these credentials upon your first login if you are deploying this in a shared environment).
