Argon is an open source utility with the aim to supply multiple network configuration in Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8. It's usefully when you move your notebook from a network to others. For each network you can select the network card to use and store configuration as "profile". For each profile you can configure many things as: Network card configuration, Proxy configuration, A set of application to run when the profile start, A set of windows services to start or to stop, Set the default printer, Map the necessary network drive, Disable network cards, Enable/disable network card.
- Import current system settings
- Run at Windows startup
- Support for switching TCP/IP settings
- Support Proxy configuration
- Support start/stop services on profile execution
- Support batch or application run on profile execution
- Each profile can define a default printer
- Support disable other network card on profile execution
Excellent tool. Very handy for use with laptops that need to switch between multiple networks. I also have used it on desktop systems for switching between test networks. Would love to see the ability to stop the splash screen from persisting for so long. That's the only thing I've found that annoys me. Other than that, very handy.
This is definitely the best free network/proxy/printer/mapped drive switcher out there and I have tried heaps. Contrary to other reviews the installer worked flawlessly (6MB) - it is marvelous what a difference having your machine up to date makes! The switching itself is a bit slow but when compared with doing all that manually it is way in front. Thanks for the fantastic software and keep up the good work :)
My favorite IP switcher with a lot of extra options.
@spargy: this is the installation process of visual studio. The installed 50 MB are about .NET framework (necessary for the application). If you have problem to install it, consider to install .NET framework 4.0 separately from Microsoft web-site.
Has an install problem with a preexisting installation of a newer version of WINCAP. Install FAILS but only after having installed over 50 Mb of files and not cleaning up on failure. Since the install effects the environment, it's a pain in the a$$ to clean the sludge this app leaves behind! The install ALSO FAILS to check systemwide for previous installs of GTK and if the install path is to an other drive it install another iteration. As good as the app MAY be, without a properly civilized and controlled install process it will leave heaps of crap, stains and stink on the carpet. NOT AT ALL READY FOR PRIMETIME
