Welcome to the official SourceForge page for Allegiance OS!

AllegianceOS (AOS) is a Linux/GNU distribution based on Slackware Linux. It is currently 64 bit only, but the (unwritten) roadmap leads to 32 bit releases and possibly ARM64 in the future.

AOS is multilib by default - including the GCC and glibc packages from AlienBob's multilib repository. It is minimal in size - the standard ISO releases will not exceed 1024mb. As few core Slackware packages have been rebuilt or edited as possible - the goal is not to actually "alter" Slackware but rather create a working subset of it's full installation. This does not change the core dependencies within Slackware but rather allows the user to obtain the other packages from the main Slackware repositories via the standard `slackpkg` utility.

Currently the default desktop is XFCE 4.14 from Robby Workman's repository. With the exception of the xfce4-panel package, none of his packages have been edited. The panel package was rebuilt to include patches for some known bugs XFCE has with compiz. (Patches obtained from Arch's AUR). In addition, multiple desktop configurations have been provided so that a user may easily choose their preferred desktop along with account creation. A utility is also included which enables these configurations to be changed for a pre-existing user account! These configurations currently include a KDE look-a-like, Gnome2, Gnome3 Classic, a system default, and the upstream default from XFCE itself.

A toggling darkmode has been added to each desktop configuration for easier night reading. Desktops can also be switched with the toggle by editing the BASH script located in ~/.config/aos/ called "toggletheme".

Other utilities and scripts have been added and are covered more thoroughly in the FAQ, ReadME and InstallerGuide PDF files.

Donations to the project can currently be made at: PayPal.me/kreifel

Currently AOS is in beta - based on the -current branch of Slackware Linux - it should NOT be used for a primary system at this time. Once Slackware -current branches into the next stable release (15.0), AOS will also release it's first stable.

Slackware Linux is a trademark of Patrick Volkerding
Allegiance OS is an OpenSource GPL licensed project which is provided as-is with no warranty.

Thank you for your interest in this project, and look forward to the feedback!
