Features

  • Refer https://dhcpserver.sourceforge.net/ for all the DHCP Server's features
  • Also, can get the latest application binaries from the above site and copy them to the opendhcp folder link
  • Occasionally, you may have to restart the built in small Internet Browser, after clicking the lease status icon on desktop
  • multibootusb software download link : https://sourceforge.net/projects/multibootusb/files/ Alternately, you can use the multibootusb-live dvd, available on my profile page link above
  • Use a USB 2.0 / USB 3.0 pen drive of about 4 GB size for the initial setup. If needed, large sized pen drives can be used.
  • IMPORTANT: Please DISABLE any OTHER DHCP SERVERS, on the same network, to prevent any clashes. Please check the web based interface of your ROUTERS for the presence of ENABLED DHCP SERVERS.
  • VERY IMPORTANT: This Live CD upon Booting, automatically starts a DHCP SERVER in the Background and listens for any DHCP REQUESTS on the Default Live CD Ethernet Address of 192.168.1.254 and forwards any Internet Gateway requests to the Router with Address : 192.168.1.1 If you are using an Internet Router, then it is very easy to change its LAN IP Address to 192.168.1.1 and then Steps 4 to 7 above can be easily ignored and NO EDITING is then necessary. Your local network becomes live within few minutes, that too with just a basic network switch having no dhcp server inside. Apart from this, this live cd can be run from any OLD PC manufactured after 2009 / 2010 with a 64-bit processor inside and only requires a small pen drive to operate.
  • For usage on Virtual Machines: Please create a New VM with Memory of 1 GB or more ( for better performance ), Type: Linux, Version: Other Linux (64-bit), hard disk size of 8 GB and the .iso file attached to it. Before starting the VM, set the Network Adapter to Bridged Mode, in the VM's settings, for its availability over the entire LAN. Start the VM to boot from this live cd. After booting for the first time, open the Gparted Program from the Applications Menu -> System Group and then create a new ext4 partition on the un allocated space. Follow steps 3 to 10 above, as required. This is a custom Puppy Linux 64 Bit Live CD, for your information.
  • Enable Virtualization technology support in your System BIOS ( if any ) after Google Search on it, for your desktop / laptop model. Contact your IT Support person, if required.
  • For TROUBLESHOOTING or getting detailed information on the activity of the DHCP SERVER, please have a look at the opendhcp/log folder files, on the Desktop. Follow it up with some Google Search to resolve it.
  • LATEST UPDATE: A new release has been made to this live cd at 11:50 pm, Sunday, 29 October 2023 (GMT). This release ensures that the opendhcp server stops cleanly on shutdown of the live cd. Please update to this latest release, if you have not already done so.
  • If you have made any changes to this Live CD's network configuration, then Right Click the "lease status" icon on the Desktop and Choose "edit item" and then edit the Arguments shown in it.
  • Refer Screenshots below for the Live CD in Operation
  • As Linux Operating Systems are Powering over 90.36% Servers and 70.20% Networking Devices of the World, it is no wonder, that this Live CD is also made up of a Linux Operating System. Hope, this contribution helps in enhancing the knowledge of its users.
