2015-01-25 As will be immediately apparent, I haven't really got a clue what I'm doing. I'm not an IT professional in any way, but I do want to have something akin to MS Access forms when using MySQL as a back-end, in Linux. This includes subforms, "finder" combo-boxes, etc. Something like PHPMyAdmin isn't designed for this at all. So I'm messing about with HTML, Javascript, PHP, JQuery, and using an Apache server. I'm using Aptana as the IDE and BlueGriffon to quickly produce "outlines" or "wireframes" of the intended look of the future form, essentially using tables (maybe there's a way of creating tables quickly in Aptana, but I don't know it). So the idea is to create standard components which can be dropped into tables and become functionally equivalent to the components you find in MS Access forms. In the longer term it might even be conceivable to design things which Access may not do so well: for example, tree-based data structures. There would then be the possibility of tweaking such bare-bones components to make them as complex or as unusual as anyone wanted. I'm looking for anyone to get in touch who thinks this is a good idea... or indeed to take over the "project" entirely, if such is your wish... mrodent33@yahoo.co.uk
