I was writing some silly .MID music for an online
adventure game the other day and I noticed a problem
with the .MID exporter. I'm forced to use only the
general MIDI patch set to write this music (as it
needs to be browser-friendly) so I have to use all
channel/patch settings for the instruments. The bug is
that the "patch" setting is not being exported to
the .MID, so all of the sounds come out as grand piano
when I play it with media player.
To repro :
Setup some general MIDI instruments (set the MIDI
output to general MIDI - all consumer sound cards have
this - and set the patch)
Write a little ditty with various GM instruments
export to .MID
close ZT and double-click the MID
notice - all of your instruments are pianos.
I loaded it up in cakewalk and none of the patch info
was there. Had to put it in with Cakewalk, and just
being subjected to the interface of that program was
reason enough for me to break several chairs over my
head.

We've had to explain this alot.. maybe i should do
something about it or write about it in the FAQ ... but
you have to put a P0000 effect at the use of every
instrument in your .zt to have that be exported in
the .mid ... again this is for the same reason there is no
auto-updating on .zt load because if you use real
equipment, it is often very bad if the patch changes are
sent automatically (you could loose your edits on the
machine) thus, you have to do it manually
