It would be cool to be able to select which Proportional, Fixed-Pitch and Symbol fonts you can use in the game.

For example, in Beyond Zork, you would be able to assign BeyZork.fon (or Mac equivalent) as a symbol font to get the map to display correctly.

Or, in Zork, you could go old school with Courier or maybe do something easier on the eyes.

    This is a great suggestion, I will add it to the current development release of ZMPP (trunk) and it will be part of the next release

    Actually, Beyond Zork uses the symbolic font, which is not implemented yet by ZMPP. I did not want to use Frotz's BeyZork.fon, because it is a pixel font which does not scale well on modern screens.

    The newly released preview version of ZMPP 1.5 allows to choose the standard and fixed font in applets
