I'm sorry to say that there is no Linux version of
ZMatrix. The program is pretty heavily tied to the modern
Windows API (Win2k/XP). But, given the fact that its
licensed under the GPL, anyone interested in making a Linux
port (taking the core rendering logic -- which is reasonably
platform independant) is free to do so. What keeps me from
considering a Linux port is that I worry that I would have
to worry about different graphics toolkits and window
managers, which might be nightmare. Anyways, I'd say
Win9x/Me support is more likely to happen than Linux support.

Well, I can see about maybe getting a linux copy up. I
haven't really programed much in linux, to be too good.
Though I can always see about getting a copy never the
less. I'll take a look at the source code, and see what I
can do to make a linux copy.

I'd be thrilled (and somewhat stunned) to hear that the
program could work under WINE in linux.
I doubt it'll work though, because although WINE provides
the Win32 API, I don't think it emulates (I know, I know,
it's not an emulator) the Windows Explorer shell, and
ZMatrix depends on the Windows Explorer shell (hence its
failing to run with alternative shells such as LiteStep).

another thing would be to make a cap of the animation on
windows, and export it as a GIF and see if the desktop will
animate, it may or may not....
and also, wine also aids in porting Windows software to
linux, so check http://www.winehq.org
ohh a Linux version would be REALLY Sw33t, Considering
that it's more graphically stunning than windows! ;)

Actually with Win98 SE I haven't had any trouble at all
using zMatrix. It works flawlesly infact. I am using a
pretty old build of litestep though, 0.24.6 and desktop.dll
v1.1.1.1
Sorry if it doesn't work on your box :(

That would be totally and completely kickass. I would love
you love time if somebody could do this for linux, or do
something like this for linux. I could attempt to port it
to Linux, but I'm currently learning C++ (the only language
I know). Don't know what this is written in. Anyway, plz
email me andruk.tatum {[at]} gmail.com with the subject
Linux ZMatrix plz!

Why isn't here support for Linux? But why is everything supported for on the only OS that really sucks (the one with too many bugs & too many things to download just so you could make one or more things in the OS to work better. System Overload? Yes. Do you still not know which one I'm talking about? It's the one started by those two guys who got kicked out of Harvard.)? Linux & Apple Mac OS are the only OS worth buying over the other one that's pre-installed everywhere: But international governments are switching to Linux. If everybody in Washington DC had a Linux PDA/ Blackberry I'd bet we won't be using this pretty old failure of an OS anytime soon. Better yet, is there a version for Linux written in perl? I'm currently learning this on my Linux Redhat Fedora Core 3 OS.
Thanks.
