Since it's set to run at idle priority, it should only use 100% of
your CPU if nothing else needs the cycles. Check that it's
properly set as idle priority, and that there are in fact other
programs which would need the processor.

Actually, I had a similar problem recently.

It came about very suddenly, which was strange, as I had
changed none of the ZMatrix settings for some time, nor
installed any new programs that should give any conflicts.

However, sure enough, ZMatrix began eating up 100% of the
CPU at all times. This was on "Idle Priority." I even went into
the Task Manager to double check the priority, which was in
fact at idle. However, many programs that utilized my display
drivers would no longer run, or run at VERY slow speeds.
These programs ranged from idle to high priorities.

I noticed the most conflict with my 3D screensavers, which
would no longer run. PowerDVD also took a noticeable hit in
framerate. All of these programs had run properly, alongside
    ZMatrix, before.

The only explanation that I could come up with is my semi-
recent update to the nVidia 44.03 drivers, although the
problem with ZMatrix did not arise until a week or so after the
    installation of the new drivers.

Finally, I was able to fix the problem by moving the sliders in
the ZMatrix settings around a bit.

On AMD 2600+ it uses 0-2% normally, but sometimes it uses
~80% when running Internet Explorer, but only after some
popups or maybe Adobe Acrobat Reader within IE.

It stays at around 80% and the only way to stop that is to
exit and restart the program (ZMatrix). It DOES affect other
programs even though it's on idle priority.

Maybe it conflicts with the video drivers.

    Windows XP, nVidia 44.03, GF4 Ti4800
