Hi all, I'd like to start a discussion about use cases for ZCO (or mapping in general) and Plone or CMF. Please feel free to jump in and add your own thoughts. My immediate uses for mapping with Plone (I'm using that in one place instead of CMF) are these: 1) allow members of a portal to locate themselves on a portal-wide map by using a Geometry widget . If you've looked at the ZCO demo you may have seen how I am doing this in Zope with a Catalog and a "geom" property that uses WKT formatted geometry like 'POINT (-107 41)'. 2) allow portals members to publish a small number of features to a portal-wide map for the purpose of a spatial "marketplace" -- comparing area of interest of a consumer to a producer's resources. For this we would use a Plone/CMF content type that extended the CSV file mechanism in ZCO. I have thought less about portal members creating their own maps, and would like to hear more from you about this use case. cheers, Sean -- Sean Gillies sgillies at frii dot com http://users.frii.com/sgillies |
