zKanji 0.731
OS: Win7 x64, WinXP x86 SP3.
Problem: during long term study test, program window randomly deactivates and disappears. According to to task manager zkanji still runs, but there's no way to bring it back, only to close through task manager. No error is given, o have no idea what is causing this problem.
This is not newly installed zkanji, i'm using it like about 2 years and updating when new version comes.

Hi, thanks for reporting this problem!
Could you tell me a bit more about the circumstances when this error occurs? For example, did you interrupt the long-term study and then continued without restarting zkanji? Have you already tested many times after the last update but before this happened? These are just examples. Anything you do before or during study, even if it seems ordinary, could trigger the bug. I need to be able to reproduce the problem (make it happen for me too) to be able to fix it.
I have done tests before and after update and i don't use any custom dictionaries.
launch zkanji->long term study->start the test->enter the number of new items to include to test... In my case this time were 30 new items total. Test starts, and after several questions window just hides. No, i don't pause the test.
Then close zkanji through task manager, launch zkanji, test, this time choose 15 new items instead of 30 - and this time complete all test without any problem. Then try to do test on backup zkanji (same version, backed up month ago). No new items to include, just start test and after several questions it hides again. Actually, it hides even if i don't do anything after starting test, just wait for ~9sec.
And now i remembered, that i had similar problem just after updating to zkanji 0.719 after it's release when program started to check dictionary changes at startup and asking users interaction. The process wasn't smooth, got some errors while going updating dictionary and choosing new meanings and when after several attampts finally managed to complete this task and attempted long term study test - this problem happened (hiding window). After removing some items from long term study list that seemingly were causing errors, test was done without interruptions and all this problem was forgotten until now.
Hi,
I might experience the same or similar problem during long term study, though mostly at the end. Reaching the last item it does not end properly asking to check studied kanjis, but shuts down with the message "access violation at address 0071E05F in module zkanji.exe. read of address A043D521" (sorry, I'm not sure if the numbers here are always the same)
Now I have zkanji 0.731, but it's not new, it happened during previous version too. I would say it does not happen all the time, but more or less above 150-200 items for a day. Then I need to close zkanji in task manager. After reopening I can continue with the last couple of words again and then comes the kanji review properly.
Anyhow it still works in some way, so i used to live with it, but of course it would be nice to avoide. Could you, pls?
// Once when i hade 800-900 items piled up, then long term study could not be opened at all until hundreds of items were deleted from the list. It shut down zkanji immediately and even closing zkanji in task manager and reopening again, the same happened repeatedly. I guess such amount of words might be anyhow meaningless for a day...//
Thanks. L.
This is probably related to another bug report. https://sourceforge.net/p/zkanji/bugs/46/ Could you check one thing for me? What happens if you open the window listing the words in the long-term study, choose the "studied items" tab, and scroll through he whole list once from top to the end? A similar error message should show up. I still haven't found the source of the bug, but if you can verify this, I will at least know that the two cases are the same.
In that case the problem is with incorrect data for 1 or 2 words. In the worst case a dozen. (The data I received from the other bug report had a single incorrect item.) I could modify zkanji that on starting up when it encounters the incorrect data, it would remove the bad words from the long-term study, probably notifying you with a message window about it so you would know which words were removed. This wouldn't fix the bug itself, but could at least help a bit.
I've read the other topic (sorry for writing in another one), that is the error message what i also get. Pls, find attached today's error. Tested 156, new 63.
But scrolling the studied items (or the other two) does not cause any problem in my case. I've tried it today as well and nothing went wrong. I scroll the item list regularly to check scores or the items coming up the next day without problem.
Unfortunately that error message is not useful in any way (unless it happens while I test the code.)
Could you also upload your user data somewhere so I can see what's wrong?

same problem for me :-(
i start zkanji, click long term study, enter new items and after a few seconds program ends.
I terminate it in task manager and try again. i do it three-four times and then it works....
