Hi, I tried ziproxy with confuse 2.3 on FBSD 4.1 and everything went fine witho= ut=20 need to -lgettext.... Believe me, I would be happier if I'd encounter this= =20 problem myself.=20 Please look at/send the output of =2E/confuse-config --libs and =2E/confuse-config --cflags what flags it needs. There has to be something like confuse. If I had to hack something myself,= =20 there would be rather no config file, instead a zillion command line=20 switches..... Yes, it was. Netd does only check if address matches OnlyFrom and ziproxy doesn't not checks at all. Are you using netd or inetd? The setting in ziproxy.conf applies to netd only. Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Greetings, I am having trouble configuring ziproxy. When I ./configure it tells me that it could not find libgif or libungif. I have installed libungif-4.1.1 and I have all other required libs installed on FreeBSD 5.2.1. I have tried adding -static to LDFLAGS, but that has not helped. TIA |

Hi Juraj, I have done more research and found the problem to be with slow ad servers referred to by popular web sites. I installed ad zapper on squid and the time delay problems went away. The conclusion I have reached is that in order to experience consistent benefits from ziproxy, one has to block ads. Thanks for your help! Only clue I can give is that resolving server IP and creating the connection to server is also counted in "getting headers". Squid is slow (in my experience), but 10 seconds are too much. Try adding a logdifftime("connecting to server"); call next to open_client_socket() in main() function in ziproxy.c. I will add it into CVS, too. If it isn't squid, I don't know what and only profiling (or adding more logdifftime calls) may help. In my logs is it around 1 second. Hi, I realized where is the problem. Ziproxy did not forward the CONNECT request and next proxy was confronted with raw data. I have to read the HTTPS RFC how should it be. But I've made following patch to make ziproxy ignore NextProxy setting while connecting as HTTPS, as you suggested. IMHO it would be best if you can configure the browsers that they connect HTTPS and FTP directly (as ziproxy doesn't support FTP at all). Or exchange ziproxy and squid. It seems like xinetd is not configured correctly for ziproxy. The /etc/xinetd.d/ziproxy file is as below. Any ideas? I even entered a line in /etc/services and restarted xinted.d but it is still the same. Strange to me. service ziproxy { port = 8080 socket_type = stream wait = no user = root server = /home/splaw/ziproxy-1.2/ziproxy /home/splaw/ziproxy-1.2/ziproxy.conf log_on_success += USERID log_on_failure += USERID disable = no } Thanks & regards Sp > --__--__-- > >Message: 2 >From: Juraj Variny <va...@na...> >To: zip...@li... >Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2004 21:11:43 +0100 >Subject: [Ziproxy-users] Re: cannot run ziproxy > >Strange.... Strange.... You could trace xinetd, to find out what it actually tries to do. 1. Find out xinetd PID, i .e.: ps aux | grep xinetd 2. Start tracing(as root): strace -e trace=execve -f -p $PID 3. Try to connect with browser. 4. Stop tracing with ^C. Is the first parameter to execve() what we want? If not, something weird is with xinetd (xinetd.d/ziproxy you sent looks OK). If it didn't help, repeat 2.-4. with full trace: strace -f -p $PID and send me the output. Hi Juraj, I followed what you did and it manages to get the html page. But I still don't know what is the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Run the command as root: /home/splaw/ziproxy-1.2/ziproxy /home/splaw/ziproxy-1.2/ziproxy.conf It should wait for request. If you type in the request, for example: GET http://www.google.com/ HTTP/1.0 and press Enter twice, you should get a response from google. Juraj |

As far as I can tell, this looks like libconfuse bug. Are you able to compile and use example programs bundled with libconfuse? Perhaps you haven't GNU gettext library (or old version) installed. Libconfuse's configure script should have detected it, anyway.
