What is this "Zabbix-HDD" application?

Many network monitoring tools depend on, and solely use, the "smartmontools" facility to read "smart" data from a
hard drive (HDD). Unfortunately, some drives either do not provide any "smart" data or provide an incomplete
subset of such data. Where there is no "smart" data available, such tools as mentioned above are not very useful.

The "Zabbix-HDD" extension for the Zabbix network monitoring application makes use of a wide variety of
utilities and 3rd party tools to report on the "health" of a discovered HDD. This not only refers to possible
temperature but also the existance of an HDD, and possibly its connectivity/usabilty within the OS. Other
information about discovered HDD will be made available, most of which relies on "smartmontools" and
adequate smart capailbity of the HDDs in question.

It does not solely rely on the "smart" data, so if an HDD without "smart" data is present in a configured host,
it can still be detected as "being there" or not. Within the configured time window, this extension can
report near-to-real-time changes in an HDD.
