Things to think about

Placeholder to show I still care about this project... there's lots of stuff I need to learn.

My machine has been upgraded to a Mandrake 10.0 system, and hence, I need to see how yp is done - if I can get it to coexist with the existing DNS system in place. The previous yp system was installed on fatty (a FreeBSD 4.7 system) and I don't know what would happen with having two yp servers running on the same network.... read more

What does NIS want?

Now I have stuff adding to LDAP, I need to investigate what sort of information NIS requires when it makes an inquiry.
This could be erm, interesting.

News of import

Basically, info imported from /etc/shadow, etc, isn't being totally integrated as I'd like, and I want to know why. I can't find any obvious reason why I can't create entries after a certain point, but I think it has something to do with the Schema I'm using. (shrug) guess that means I have more learning to do. Ah well, at least I'm keeping this project moving.
Signing out.

More learning

I have got two little LDAP (http://www.openldap.org) databases running, just to see how to do it - now I have to figure out how to get access to what SORTS of data NIS requires be available. Currently, I've only got experience in the /etc/(passwd|shadow) field, and have absolutely NONE with NIS. That'll come later, however. My chief problem has been how to automate store-to-LDAP within my current structure. It isn't as easy as I thought, but I suspect I might be missing something simple here.... read more

Jobs, stats, and learning

Installed my own website, amalgamating original website present on sf.net. AND - I finally have some stats! Anyway, further reading on how to set up a LDAP server and an NIS server await.

Later...

Project admin changeover

viking667 has taken over the maintenance of this project from the previous maintainer/coder. landonf wishes viking667 the best of luck.
First thing viking667 needs is a crash course in NIS/LDAP while he gets his head around it.
