I've verified that it works when posting to my regular ISP, which uses
Twister. However, when I try posting to 1usenet... (personal info XXXed
out):
Connecting to usa-east.1usenet.net:119
result:200 news.1usenet.com DNEWS 5.5h2, S13, posting OK
xx.xx.xxx.xxx
Sending userid
XXXX
result:381 PASS required
Sending password
result:480 User and password still required, authinfo command
Caught exception Bad result while sending auth info480 User and
password still required, authinfo command
Nonfatal; we'll try again
The above will repeat as often as I care to let it. BTW, that was on
verbosity level 5.

I would be willing to purchase a 1 month 1usenet account to
reproduce/fix this bug, but can you tell me what the minimum
account level I can get and still dup (post) would be?
Thanks...

I was testing this yesterday and as far as I can tell, it's not sending the
password at all. My normal ISP uses IP-based authentication, so I wasn't using
any user/passwd info to post there.
My C++ stinks worse than my Java, which is also malodorous, but I had
attempted to look at the problem. I changed the code in nntp::connect to
send PASS in the exact same way as USER (couldn't figure out the significance
of doing it differently), but no change. If I telnet in and enter the exact same
info as ypost does, I get access. Maybe we're sending too fast, is all I can
think of, but I'm sure the answer is even more obscure.
Oh, and you can get a normal month of access on 1usenet for a whole $3.95!

John.... you said you wanted to look at alternate
authentication issues? :)
