General Flow

  1. Select a Species
    • Selecting can be done in 2 ways
      1. Clicking the arrow on the right of the drop-down box to show the possible selections and selecting one
      2. Typing in the drop-down box to filter out options then selecting one
  2. Select a Mapset
    • If you are logged in, two drop-down boxes should appear: a left one for public Mapsets and the right one for your private Mapsets (Mapsets that are uploaded by you and set to private)
    • Selecting can be done in the same way for selecting a Species
  3. Select a Map
    • Selecting can be done in 2 ways
      1. Clicking a Map in the Available Maps box to highlight it then clicking the right arrow
      2. Clicking a Map from the Available Maps box to highlight it then dragging it to the Visible Maps box
    • Multiple Maps can be highlighted and in 2 ways
      1. Pressing and holding control key then selecting the desired Maps
      2. Pressing and holding the shift key then selecting two Maps which those and all Maps between will get selected
    • Multiple Maps can be viewed. If two maps being viewed are next to each other and have correspondences, they will be shown

Removing Maps

  • Maps can be moved from the Visible Maps box to the Available Maps box (removing a Map) in the same way maps are moved from the Available Maps box to the Visible Maps box (adding a Map)
  • Maps can be highlighted in the Visible Maps box in a similar way to the Maps in the Available Maps box.
  • Clicking the 'clear' button will also clear all maps in the Visible Maps box

Viewing a Map Further

  • Clicking either the feature (the circle) or the feature name will show more information about the feature
    • Only information about one feature per map can be viewed. When another feature is selected the popup window is re-opened with new information on the next feature clicked
  • Above the maps is a toolbar that affects all Maps being viewed
    • Selecting a feature type filter will only show the features of the selected type
    • The 'Clear Filter' button will clear a feature type filter set
    • The 'Correspondences Control' button will filter correspondences in various ways
      • Correspondences between Maps that are next to each other
      • Correspondences between Maps that have a Map between them
      • Correspondences based on a:
        • Feature name <-> Feature name
        • Feature name <-> Alias name
        • Alias name <-> Alias name
        • GenBank ID <-> GenBank ID
        • Unigene ID <-> Unigene ID (each feature can have up to 4)
  • Clicking the bare chromosome segment or the map name will bring up a list of options that affect only that Map
    • The map can be zoomed in by clicking the '+' button
    • The map can be zoomed out by clicking the '-' button (limited by the original size of the chromosome upon viewing)
    • The map can be flipped by clicking the recycle button
    • Features can be filtered by selecting the type to be shown (only one feature type can be selected)
    • A feature filter can be cleared by clicking the 'Clear Filter' button
