#1 Symlinks in distribution point nowhere

Several files in the distribution are only symlinks that refer to
/usr/share/automake/... This means that they (files like
README and INSTALL, among others) are not available to users.
Definitely a problem.

Also -- I would definitely recommend
using distutils.
