With many applications, such as Caja and Terminal, it's possible to launch multiple instances.

Icon box with --compact and --single-click options. Click an icon, such as Caja, and the program launches. Click the same icon a second time and nothing happens. Click a different icon and come back to the Caja icon and a second instance launches, which should have happened on the second click. Without the --compact option the icon box acts normally, multiple launches of an application are possible.
