#225 xxdiff 40b1 mangles 8-bit content when saving

If there is 8-bit (utf-8) characters in content that is selected to be finally written using e.g. File->Save as Right, the 8-bit characters get mangled to something else.
With xxdiff 3.2 this doesn't happen (xxdiff 3.2 shows all content as latin1 (i.e.8.bit utf-8 chars incorrectly) but that doesn't matter -- broken content is different thing.

The xxdiff was compiled from sources in mercurial repository, tip changeset being:
