This might be a XFree86/Qt configuration problem, but maybe not... I am using RH 8.0, Qt 3.0.5, and I can't change the fonts xxdiff uses for App or Text. While xxdiff is running, it _does_ changes fonts and they look just like I want it to be, but if I save the corresponding init file (Help->Generate init file), next time it comes up it complains with:
QFont::setRawMode(): Invalid XLFD: "Courier 10 Pitch-10:render=True:style=Regular:slant=0:weight=100:pixelsize=12.6473:spacing=100:antialias=True:hintstyle=1:hinting=True:verticallayout=False:autohint=False:globaladvance=True:index=0:outline=True:scalable=True:dpi=91.0606:rgba=0:scale=1:minspace=False:charset= |>^1!|>^1!P0oWQ |>]![|>^1!|>^1!!!!%# !!71$!#>r7F3y?4!!K?& !!!)$ 9;*f! !!#0GM>RAd#y#fx!!!!5 !!#3H !!!!& !!#6I!!K?& !!+u{!!!!) :lang=aa|ast|ay|bi|br|ch|co|da|de|en|es|et|eu|fi|fj|fo|fr|fur|fy|gd|gl|gv|ho|ia|id|ie|io|is|it|lb|mg|nb|nl|nn|no|oc|om|pt|rm|sma|smj|so|sq|sv|sw|tn|ts|vo|vot|wa|xh|yap|zu"
(this happens not only with Courier 10 Pitch font but also with other fonts as well)
TIA,
Andre

yeah, problem is, there doesn't seem to be a standard way to
express a QFont with a unique string representation.
if you can find a nice way to do that i'd be happy to
support it.

Hi Martin,
sorry, I don't get it, so I will fire a (probably) stupid question: you mean xxdiff is unable to save the font specs for a font it _is_ using in order to use it again later? And this is due to QT's font handling scheme? If it is so, then IMHO QT is severely broken...
Unfortunately, I am far from understanding even minimal internal aspects of QT (another reason for my question above being stupid ;)), so I won't be able to help direcly... maybe one of QT's dev forums?
Best,
Andre

well, admitedly, other people are doing it (kde), so there
must be a way, just that the code wtihin xxdiff attempts to
use the X way of doing things (i.e. a single string), and i
need to update it at some point.
life is short, there is little time, and i have too many
projects, but i will get to it, eventually...

No worries, there's no rush =) This probl doesn't make xxdiff worse (I
use it almost daily at work), it is just annoying. Thks for keeping an eye
on it.
(... maybe KDE developers could help? Or even trolltech?)

I've come across the same issue here, with the advent of nice fonts like
Bitstream Vera, I have to ask, has any progress been made in the last year
on this?
xxdiff's directory compare is quite nice, and thus I use it over a KDE app
like Kompare.
xxdiff doesn't complain about it's incorrect .xxdiffrc file, it just comes up
with the fonts set incorrectly, so that each character is a square box :P
Thanks for a great program.

Are these two bug reports here related to the problem?
