User Reviews

  • The 1 star does not do this justice. The freeware is Portable. Which is good. I rate this 4 stars. I put portable software in my D: drive. It takes some discovery of how to use. A more detailed help text file would have been useful. But with some trial and error, you can figure it out. Actually it is good. Once you figure out how to use it. Xvidcapture_Chung allows you to capture on screen video in the Xvid codec, which is one of my favourite codecs. There seems to be no other choice. No complaints here. If you need to, there are so many video converters you can use to change it to other codec. I will keep them in Xvid. The software allows for a whole full screen video capture; or a window capture or a "Zone" capture. I use the Zone capture (known as Region in other software) almost all of the time in video screen capture. You click on [Zone]. Then the software is in Zome mode. You move your mouse any point you like on the screen, typically the top left corner of the rectangle frame you wish to capture. The click once. This registers the position. Then you move the mouse to the bottom right corner of the frame and click. The red line appears to show the frame. You click on [Done] in the Xvidcapture_Chung panel. That is it. You have defined the capture zone. You start your internet video on the screen; and click on [Record]. A new digital clock reading appears and counts the time of your video recording. You click on [Stop] to stop recording. The video file is default located in a subfolder (video) where you placed xvideocapture_Chung program. For example, D:\xvideocapture_Chung\video\test.avi It is always put into the \video subfolder. The filename is always test.avi. Take note that if you make subsequent video capture, then the last video capture will always overwrite the previous captures (Without notifying nor asking you). So you can simply rename the file from "test.avi" to "test-1.avi". The next one to "test-2.avi" and so on. Or whatever name you wish. Just to avoid the previous video capture file being over-written. The Xvid file play back well in any media player with good audio-video synch. Video quality is good and audio is loud and clear. Default audio is in PCM. Be careful about the few keyboard commands. If you accidentally hit the Ctrl F9 sequence, this will reduce your screen capture zone and your captured videos turn out black. Totally no picture. Ctrl F9 is meant for Giant Screens. Normal people do not need it. If you had accidentally turned on this mode, you need to turn it OFF by pressing Ctrl F9 to toggle it OFF. There is a command to change the frame rate Ctrl F2. But I did not change this. I used the default. When I checked the video captured file, it shows a frame rate of 9 FPS. This portable freeware is actually good. It just needs some polishing of User Interface. I did not change the record quality with Ctrl F8. The default looks good enough. I read other user review that the software interferes with Windows Explorer in Win 7 64 Bit OS. I do not have that OS version. So unable to comment. On my OS, there is no problem at all with Windows Explorer. Anyway, I almost never use Windows Explorer. There are much better file managers. For example, Total Commander which is far superior to Windows Explorer. SourceForge software authors who write portable freeware for others to use need encouragement for their efforts. I rate this 4 stars. Because I could never write anything as good. And this software is useful to me.
