I tried to run xsnow as xscreensaver graphics hack by adding
/usr/bin/xsnow -nomenu -desktop \n\
to the programs section of ~/.xscreensaver. But that did not work.
Would it be possible to run xsnow as xscreensaver graphics hack?

Version 3.1.6 supports xscreensaver, see the man page for documentation.

Thanks for working on this. With 3.1.6 it appears the correct xscreen graphic hack configuration is:
/usr/bin/xsnow -nomenu -root \n\
Use the correct path to xsnow. Default is /usr/games/xsnow .
I was not able to use gtk/cairo for the 'xscreensaver mode', birds will not fly for now.
For me the path is correct: Gentoo installs this as /usr/bin/xsnow.
