[Xsltforms-support] focus span necessary?

Hello Alain, What should be a simple problem, but... I have a list of xform input controls down the page with an xf:output in the middle. The alignment of the output is slightly different to the inputs due to the presence of a small span (class="focus") on the left of the input label but not with the output label. However if in my css i have span.focus {display:none;} the alignments do not change. Normally, I'd use a workaround for something like this but in this case it may be of interest. Is it intended that the focus span will have some use?
