Hi again, After a further inspection of the code in xslt-process I found that the = function xslt-process-toggle-debug-mode is called in xslt-process-mode = with a 0 argument. At first I thought this would somehow cause the = xslt-process-debug-mode variable to become nil, but this is *not* the = case. Instead it is toggled from its default nil value to t. I have now = commented out the call of xslt-process-toggle-debug-mode in = xslt-process-mode, and all is well. I think a combination of 1) and 2) would be an interesting option. The result would appear in the speedbar as a tree. When the user clicks on a particular node in the tree, the corresponding elements in the source document can be displayed, perhaps in a different color. One problem with this approach is that you'll need to write code to analyze the source XML and annotate it with Xpath information, so that selecting elements could work fast. I believe this is where the bulk of the code for this approach would be. Regards, Ovidiu |

I have been doing some development on xslt-process, and am about to start work on adding XPath expression evaluation to the debugger using Saxon. Given the Saxon code, I hope the actual evaluation may not be too complex. What is far from clear to me is the best way of displaying the output of an evaluation to the user. If the result is a simple value, it will be easy. However, if the result is a node set we need a good way of identifying the nodes within the source tree which have been selected. Possibilities that have occurred to me (I don't know how easy they would be to program, though) are 1. Use the speedbar in some way to display a tree which can be expanded and contracted 2. Use the source code in the buffer, and highlight the nodes somehow - colour would be the obvious choice 3. Number the nodes hierarchically and display a list of the numbers of the selected nodes Does anyone have any other ideas, or views on a suitable way of displaying the evaluated expression. I've contributed code for this to Xalan a year ago, but the code is currently broken within Xalan. I don't have time to work on it, so it'll have to wait for a while. Elena, It looks like you need to associate the XML document with an XSLT stylesheet. To understand how you can do this, please read section 3.4 in the documentation at: http://xslt-process.sourceforge.net/documentation.php Regards, Ovidiu On Tue, 30 Apr 2002 13:08:37 +0200, Elena Pierazzo <pie...@it...> w= rote: > Plese help me, I'm a newbie and I'm not able to run XSLT on Emacs. Hi there I am using Xemacs v 21.4 on Windows 2000 withCygwin. I am trying to associate an XML doc with a stylesheet but Xemacs returns an error as the path created is incorrect. The error I find in the *XSLT* buffer is xslt> Filename doesn't exists: C:/cygdrive/c/projects/apache/xml-cocoon2/src/documentation/xdocs/xmlform-tutorial.xml Error invoking method 'runXSLTProcessor': java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException the path should be either c:\projects\apache\xml-cocoon2\src\documentation/xdocs/xmlform-tutorial.xml or cygdrive/c/projects/apache/xml-cocoon2/src/documentation/xdocs/xmlform-tutorial.xml I have tried various ways of adding/ registering the XML file but I still get a strange path. Has anyone come across this problem before? Please Help! Thanks in advance Heidi |

I suspect that someone with more knowledge than I have may decide to avoid this, but.. I, too, would very much to see this feature, and the ability to evaluate XPath expressions against XML documents to show which nodes are selected. Again, this is for teaching reasons. As a result I am planning to work on both of these over the summer. I am afraid that my teaching and marking load will prevent doing any work on such a major development until then. I hope you will be able to wait - assuming that I can make something work. In the mean time I plan to work on some small changes. I had the same problem with xslt mode, The version thats shipped with XEmacs does not work at all. You need to install the newer version of xslt process and reconfigure it... Also I couldn't the XML highlighting to work.. At last I gave up and started using some other editor for XML.. I wish the version shipped with XEmacs worked right away.. Hello Heidi, Here's what I did to get xslt-process going (in part: Saxon 6.3 works but not Xalan 2.1.0) with slightly newer XEmacs (native not Cygwin): "XEmacs 21.4 (patch 6) \"Common Lisp (Windows [3])\" [Lucid] (i586-pc-win32) of Thu Apr 04 2002 on TSUNAMI" Yours: > XEmacs 21.4 (patch 6) "Common Lisp (Windows [1])" [Lucid] (i686-pc-cygwin) > of Sun Jan 20 2002 on TSUNAMI First, delete all xslt-process files from standard XEmacs location, that is, for me: C:\XEmacs\xemacs-packages\lisp\xslt-process\ Then download latest xslt-process (2.1) from: http://xslt-process.sourceforge.net/download.php and unzip it locally. For me: C:\.xemacs\site\xslt-process Then add the following to .xemacs\init.el: ;; Find the files (add-to-list 'load-path (expand-file-name "~/.xemacs/site/xslt-process/xslt-process-2.1/lisp")) ;; Load as needed (autoload 'xslt-process-mode "xslt-process" "Emacs XSLT processing" t) ;; Identify files to load on (add-hook 'sgml-mode-hook 'xslt-process-mode) (add-hook 'xml-mode-hook 'xslt-process-mode) (add-hook 'xsl-mode-hook 'xslt-process-mode) (defadvice xml-mode (after run-xml-mode-hooks act) "Invoke `xml-mode-hook' hooks in the XML mode." (run-hooks 'xml-mode-hook)) With that, the XSLT menu shows, and I can process files with the Saxon engine. Xalan still fails cryptically: cd java.util.EmptyStackException Hope that helps! What happens if you run M-x xslt-process-mode while visiting the XSLT buffer? Do you get the menu? From the modeline it appears you're using the xslide mode for XSLT, right? It may be that you don't have a hook in your .emacs that enables the XSLT-process mode when you open XSLT files: (add-hook 'xsl-mode-hook 'xslt-process-mode) Best regards, -- Ovidiu Predescu <ov...@cu...> http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Monitor/7464/ (GNU, Emacs, other stuff) On Tue, 9 Apr 2002 11:23:35 +0100 (BST), he...@wk... wrote: > Hi all > > I have searched the mailing list regarding the problem I have with the XSLT > menu not displaying in Xemacs.
