I had the same problem with xslt mode, The version thats shipped with 
XEmacs does not work at all. You need to install the newer version of 
xslt process and reconfigure it...
Also I couldn't the XML highlighting to work.. At last I gave up and 
started using some other editor for XML.. I wish the version shipped 
with XEmacs worked right away..
