Won't display PDF

Here are the errors I see in the *Messages* buffer:

Starting XSLT process...
Running the Xalan processor...
Starting XSLT process...done
Done invoking Xalan; no output generated.
XSLT processing finished, running FOP processor...
building formatting object tree

setting up fonts

Done invoking Xalan; no output generated.
Starting 'xslt-process-win32-open-file'  PDF viewer...
Starting PDF viewer 'xslt-process-win32-open-file'...done.

This seems to work on some XML files, but not others?

Also,  I still can't change to Saxon.  I click on it in the menu, but
nothing happens.
