Ideally, I think, an IO interface for XComponents that developers can use 
but are
not forced to use would be good. An XComponent could flag its conformance with
the XPipe IO system in the XCO file. The executive could then take 
advantage of
this to, for example, chain Output of component N to imput of component N+! 
bypassing
serialization to disk.
