A suggestion: either on the main page or the wiki maintenance page a notice showing if the current version of xowa is up to date or not, and maybe also a direct link to the correct upgrade file too.

Thanks for the idea. However, I'm reluctant to add this feature.

Until development slows down (and it may not for many months), anyone's version of XOWA is probably going to be out of date. The weekly releases sort of forces that.

If you think it's helpful, I can add a link to the Main_Page that links to https://sourceforge.net/projects/xowa/files/ and says "Check for latest release". This would just be a reminder / convenience.

I will use notices if there is a serious change, but there haven't been any yet (even sqlite doesn't qualify as one). I did want to grab people's attention with the help wanted for the upcoming image database releases, but I want to use this sparingly. Otherwise, it'll just become background noise....

Ok. I understand your point. But what about a similar feature on the wiki maintenance page instead, as this page is for maintenance purposes.

Secondly, how about adding the "wiki maint" link to the side bar?

Sounds good. Maintenance page is the more appropriate place for it.

Would a link to https://sourceforge.net/projects/xowa/files/ suffice? A direct link to the latest version is harder b/c I'd have to parse the page to figure out which version is the latest (i.e.: find out that the v0.11.1 folder is the latest release).

I'd rather not. I've been questioning the usefulness of the sidebar menu (I haven't added anything to it in months). For now, I'd rather keep all links in the context menu and the main menu (under Tools -> Wikis -> Wiki maintenance). I think both of these areas are easy to reach.

Just the link will suffice too, but I was expecting something more dynamic, like how wiki status is shown (installed dump date, new dump notice etc), and how by just clicking the update button will update a wiki. But if it is harder to implement it can be left for later.

I personally use the sidebar for navigating more than anything else. I think this is becasue I got used to the the sidebar and then the context menu and toolbar feature came to xowa. But yes, as the toolbar and context menu have the appropiate links it is not needed in the sidebar anymore. I'd forgotten about that!

Ok. I created a ticket for it here: https://sourceforge.net/p/xowa/tickets/258/. I'll try for Jan, but it may be longer

Thanks for confirming. Also, the toolbar and context menu also have the advantage of being customizable by the user: home/wiki/Help:Options/Menus
