xowa_app_windows_v3.3.4.1 not working.

Hi
I just downloaded latest xowa_upgrade_windows_v3.3.4.1.exe and after installation it came up with Main Page, but I could not access Wikipedia.
I then tried full installation xowa_app_windows_v3.3.4.1.zip and same thing.
I then reinstalled previous working version xowa_app_windows_v3.3.4.1.zip and everything worked fine again.

Operating system: Windows 7 - 32

Thanks for the report.

This is a guess, but the upgrade may have failed because your last XOWA was version 3.1.4 or earlier. Unfortunately, the upgrades have a limited shelf-life of 4 versions. If you have a version older than 4 releases, it won't work correctly.

Unfortunately, I don't have a guess for why the app version failed the first time, but worked the second time. There's no logic with the app packages; they just unpack files. If you want, you can fish out the relevant log file from C:\xowa\user\anonymous\app\tmp\log and send it to me. Otherwise, I'll see if anyone else reports an issue as well.

Thanks for the log file and the clarification. That was super helpful.

Two things:

• I accidentally broke backward compatibility with the old .sqlite3 wikis. Keep in mind these wikis were from mid-2015, and I don't have any around. I fixed the issue on a spare copy of Latin Wikipedia. The next version of XOWA will be able to use these .sqlite3 wikis. However....
• Even with the fix, the new search system won't work with these .sqlite3 wikis. That means you won't be able to use the "apostrophe" fix as well as other thing. Your best bet is to either build a new English Wikipedia, or download the most recent 2016-03 set from https://archive.org/details/Xowa_enwiki_latest .

Nope. The "Wiki maintenance" page wouldn't help. The code only handles .xowa wikis. It'd take more effort to handle the old .sqlite3 wikis, and I'd really like to phase those out.

First, I just want to make sure we're on the same page: the new SEARCH won't work for your .sqlite3 wiki. As I said above, this is an oversight on my part, but it also involves more work.

As to your questions, the new search feature has these main features:

• Faster
• Supports autocomplete in the address bar
• Better sorting of search results through PageRank
• Punctuation-friendly (apostrophes)
• More boolen operators
