Hello there I would greatly appreciate a small amount of your time to assist with my doctoral research at The University of Newcastle. The research concerns open source licensing and we're seeking developers working on Java projects. The research is supervised, ethics-approved, anonymous and results will be freely available. Participation will also provide a custom licensing report for your project. To learn more, please visit: http://licensing-research.newcastle.edu.au Thanks for reading this email, and I hope you'll consider participating. Best regards Ben Alex (My apologies for being off-topic; this list will not be emailed again) |

Wes, You have successfully subscribed me to the Xorm list. Thanks! I'm looking forward to the results of your test case. We really need to speed up the iteration over extents for our app. Re. the stack trace, I'll try to get one. I've worked around the problem for now based on my last message, i.e. using org.xorm.datastore.sql.IdleCheckSQL, which stops bad connections from ever being issued from the pool. However, it introduces an extra SQL operation for every transaction (e.g., every access) and it doesn't solve the same unrecoverable-Xorm-state problem that can occur with other driver errors. I'll need to back out the work around and run my app overnight to trigger the problem again and get a stack trace. Hi, In beta5 with a 1 to 1 relationship, if the key in the secondary table does not exist, the jdo field mapping to the secondary record is null. We could do checks like: if (primaryObj.getRelatedRecord() != null) { // doSomething with related record.. } However in beta6, the field is no longer null, we have a jdo object in the field -- however all the fields of the secondary object are null. This causes programs written with the first behavior to break, since we assume we have a good related record Is this new behavior intended? Thanks, Mike. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Mail - Send 10MB messages! http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail |

There are two places within BaseSQLDriver that the PreparedStatement that is used is not closed. This may be one of the reasons why I have been getting "To many open cursor" errors in my apps. There should be a ps1.close() at the following lines: 191 - Not closed when getting ID 224 - Not closed wen reading ID Thought you should know! -- Sloan |

I have a view in a database that does not have a defined primary key (it's a legacy db schema... real ugly) and I want to just get data from it (read-only). If I don't define one of the columns as a primary key I get : javax.jdo.JDOFatalUserException: No primary key has been set for table specinfo.well_dump. XORM requires a primary key column in order to map a Java class to this table. To get around this I set the column TISSUEID as the primary key I query the view like so: select * from specinfo.well_dump where TISSUEID = 'WE337001' I expect to get back 627 rows, which I do. But when I go through the collection returned from the query, it is the same object 627 times! I assume this is some sort of caching thing in XORM, but all of the other fields occur at least once as well. How do I then get around the Primary Key error? Here is my table definition (w/o primary key) : <table name="specinfo.well_dump"> <column name="TISSUEID" type="java.lang.String" read-only="true"/> <column name="PLATE_ID" type="int" read-only="true"/> <column name="PLATE_LABEL" type="java.lang.String" read-only="true"/> <column name="WELL" type="java.lang.String" read-only="true"/> <column name="CELL_COUNT" type="int" read-only="true"/> </table> -- Sloan |

I should have just done one long email. Sorry about this. It seems that if you have a char field and do a setWhatever(char) and then a makePersistent() it works. But if you try to retrieve the field via the public char getWhatever() you get a ClassCastException. There seems to be another issue hitting an Oracle DB. I've got a column that is of type Integer (Number in oracle) and if I try to make the bean that uses the field persistent I get an Invalid Column Type error if I do not set the field, or set it to null. So, to be more descriptive: I've got a jdo bean (ClinicalTrial.java) with the field: setPatientRace(Race race); which is a FK to the table RACE. If I do a: setPatientRace(null) And then makePersistent, I get the error. Here is the generates SQL statements: INSERT INTO CLINICAL_TRIAL (CLINICAL_TRIAL_ID,COMPLETED_BY,COMPLETED_DATETIME,ACCESSION_ID,PATIENT_INIT IALS,PHYSICIAN,LOCATION,TISSUE_EXTRACTION_DATE,PATIENT_DATE_OF_BIRTH,PATIENT _RACE_ID) VALUES (?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?,?) { CLINICAL_TRIAL_ID=11 COMPLETED_BY=S COMPLETED_DATETIME=Thu Aug 12 13:27:39 EDT 2004 ACCESSION_ID=retgret PATIENT_INITIALS=asd PHYSICIAN=sdfv LOCATION=sdfv TISSUE_EXTRACTION_DATE=Fri Aug 20 00:00:00 EDT 2004 PATIENT_DATE_OF_BIRTH=Fri Aug 20 00:00:00 EDT 2004 PATIENT_RACE_ID=null } I'm guessing this is an issue with Oracle not liking nulls in FK's or Numbers, but how do I get around this? I tried setting non-null for the field in the xorm configuration file but that didn't do anything.. Ideas? Thanks... -- Sloan |

Is there a plan to upgrade XORM to the newest CGLIB and ASM packages? I'd like to use them in a project I have but the versions XORM requires are conflicting. -- Sloan |

I have mostly worked with Rose and Visio. I think anything that will generate PDF output would be acceptable.
